Early Detection Saves Lives Says Chidoka

The former Chief Executive Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, and also ex-Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, hinted Thursday at the burial ceremony of his mother,Late Mrs Nneka Chidoka, died of cancer scourge.

Fielding questions from newsmen at his Obosi country home, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, he said that she suffered it for 15 years adding that early detection and treatment made her to stay this long.

“She has suffered from cancer scourge for the past 15 years. The reason why she stayed long was because of early detection and treatment. We decided to bring it to the open because it is an opportunity to talk about early detection, treatment.and preventive method,” he stated.

On the medical outreach the family had at Ozubulu and Obosi, he stated that, “We are partners with various medical organizations and we shared the medical outreach in Ozubulu and Obosi. We screened 200 women for various ailments. No woman should die of cancer.

“Something that can be detected early is something that can be treated early. We decided that this burial ceremony is not just a time for people to come and eat and celebrate with us but for us to reach out to society,” he maintained.

The former Aviation boss described his mother as a strong woman who gave birth to five children, four boys and a girl. We will commit whatever that is realized from the burial to the treatment of cancer scourge to support those suffering from the scourge,”Chidoka affirmed.

In the same vein, Dr Chinonso Nwosu, the head of the medical team organising the outreach under Nneka Chidoka Foundationh stated that the outreach started on tuesday, 9th may at Ozubulu and on 10th and 11th at Obosi, which up to five hundred patience attended.

”We discovered that the common ailments here are high blood pressure (HBP), We also embark on vital science check,weight, temperature, we also check malaria parasite on those whom we discovered that they have BP, we also check the sugar, all cancer screening, breast examination for all women.

“We have a cancer specialist doctor from Lagos and more than other twenty doctors who are specialist in other ailments.

He advised the patience to be careful with what they eat, to exercise, take their drugs as prescribed, avoid the over the counter drugs.
