Diocese On The Niger Laity Gears Up 2026 Events …As Sir Chris Ukachukwu, President, DoN Laity Tasks Leaders

The Diocese on the Niger Council of Laity has held its first meeting for the year 2026 at St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, Nkpor Junction.

Addressing the Session, the President of the Laity, Diocese on the Niger, Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu called for the Diocesan Exco together with the Archdeaconry Leaders to always see themselves as bridge builders in their various positions and levels to be able to deservedly reactivate the Laity as expected.

The President announced that there will be a 2-day retreat to galvanize the make up of the enlarged Diocesan Council of Laity comprising of every organization in the Church and prayed for massive turn out of those concerned.

The retreat which holds March 29 and 30 at Crowther Retreat Centre, Onitsha, promises to be a melting pot for the year’s activities.

Sir Ukachukwu further drew the attention of the Council to up-coming yearly Diocesan events making particular reference to the Synod and Homage which go with financial responsibility.

The Archdeacon, New Covenant Archdeaconry, Ven Frank Obi who spoke to the meeting, regretted that most times people do not place due value on what is theirs which allows for neglect and often times decay.

Ven Obi made a revelation of the urgent need to breed leaders that will fight genuine cause of the Church and reap the benefits.

The President, Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu earlier led a delegation of the Diocesan Exco on a courtesy call on the new Archdeacon.

Ven Frank Obi expressed satisfaction over the leadership skills being exhibited by the Diocesan President, Sir Chris Ukachukwu in bringing the Laity together again in the Diocese as he promised to build on his cordial relationship with his colleagues Priests and his position as the Deputy Chairman, House of Clergy, to make the Laity bring its functionality to the fore in the Diocese.

Ven Obi reiterated the need for the Laity and the Directorate for Civic and Political Affairs, DCPA to always be alive to their political responsibilities both within political periods and off periods.

The Laity President Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu reassured Ven Obi of his unrelenting determination to continue with a robust drive for a revitalized and reinvigorated House of Laity not only in Diocese on the Niger but also in the Province of the Niger.

Sir Ukachukwu promised to include leadership training as part of the content of his sensitization initiative.

Sir Ukachukwu expressed satisfaction with the financial report which he said is an improvement on the Council’s financial status.

The Niger Diocesan Laity President, Ukachukwu later appreciated the Laity for the fraternity and solidarity extended to him and his family during the traditional and Church weddings of one of their daughters.

The Diocesan Laity President provided a sumptuous lunch for members in attendance to concretize his appreciation as well as to begin the year for the Council.

The President equally announced that the 2026 Diocesan Laity Congress holds September 13 while the Provincial Convention comes up on July 4 to be hosted by Nnewi Diocese.

Pharm Sir Chris Ukachukwu generally called for the Laity to redouble their effort in this new year to achieve the desires and projections.
