Dear Distinguished Senator Tony Nwoye

Tony Nwoye

What have I done to deserve these consistent attacks against me which started since I was appointed to serve in the government of Anambra State? I have decided to write you this open letter because these attacks have been largely public and are designed to bring me into public opprobrium.

You were one of the first people I called after my appointment in 2022 but since then, you have been bent on killing my name

First, after you won your election in 2023, before the House of Assembly election, you convened a meeting of the whole community and lied publicly against me, accusing me of writing a petition against you to remove you from the senate. You accused me falsely intentionally to paint me black before the community, perhaps to crush me politically in Nsugbe. I respected you and never uttered a word against you due to the respect I have for you and in order not to cause division in the community. I only pleaded that I should be allowed to contribute my quota to the development of my community just like you have done. I came to greet you at Ilo Abito during the House of Assembly election and you smashed my hand and almost fought me. You later confirmed that those accusations against me were false, after you had achieved your aim. After those elections, some ladies working for you were sacked because they supported my candidate in the House of Assembly election. Some people were humiliated in your house because they merely visited my house during the House of Assembly election. Are we not brothers??

I have taken on several projects for the benefit of ndi Nsugbe but there are always several efforts to stop me. I visited ugwu oyibo in 2023 and offered to design, landscape and interlock the entire premises but i was told you offered to do the same thing and i pulled out because of the respect i have for you. Sometime in 2023, I attracted the construction of a park at Abata which would yield employment and revenue for ndi Nsugbe, particularly ndi Ogwuari and NDU but after i visited Ogwuari to inform them, some people came from you and told ndi Ogwuari that you have decided to do the same. I pulled back from this project because of the respect i have for you. I offered to personally build a High Court in Nsugbe and you “advised” i leave the land for another group to build a hospital and i pulled out.
The most painful one is that after pleading with you on behalf of about 20 people from Nsugbe who got employed at Federal Medical Center in Onitsha, the head of the hospital was arrested and was accussed of employing them without due process and their jobs were terminated. All these were to embarass me and frustrate my good will. The cries of those people still break my heart till today but i kept my mouth shut. These people were told at the hospital how they were removed and they can talk better. Suffice it to say, that these poor people would have become blessings to their families and to Nsugbe.

Now, I have been inundated with several calls and messages from umu Nsugbe narrating how you accuse me of destroying Nsugbe with the Igweship contest, which is another blackmail against me. First of all, you know I have tried my best not to get involved in the contest and I have focused on the huge responsibilities bestowed on me as the Attorney General of Anambra State. I am a son of Ivite with all the rights to participate in all processes leading to the election but I decided not to be distracted by this process. You personally confessed to me on phone that from your enquiries, I have not been interfering in the process. From the first day you announced in a whatsapp group meeting that Sir. Amaechi Okeke must be the igwe of Nsugbe and that there won’t be an election, I told you my position, which is to allow ndi Ivite to decide. Ivite Nsugbe has 4 villages and those villages are bigger than me and you.

Why must you blackmail me again distinguished senator?? I had supported you in all your elections and political journey since I left university. In all your elections, I left my job and came down to Anambra to join your electioneering campaigns and on the days of your election, I risked my life for you. I would have been the next victim after Opel suffered the stabs that deshaped his hand at your election but i escaped. You recall the role I played for you to go to the House of Representatives after you had lost hope when your opponent was declared winner of the election. Perhaps, God used me (with the help of Okota) to put you there which eventually paved way for you to become a Senator. Not only was I there to support your elections, I joined in fighting the legal battles for you. I worked day and night severally and sometimes, all through the night, to defend you. All those were done by me without asking for fees. When I lost my mum in September 2017, I and my siblings left her corpse in the mortuary for more than two months to concentrate on your governorship election campaigns. I was mourning my late mum but i stoically continued with your campaigns, in pains, until the election was over, out of the love and respect i have for you.

Despite all these, since my appointment as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, you took the way of hostility to me and you have been unrelenting in your false accusations and blackmail against me. Now, I am the Attorney General of our beloved State but rather than support me as I have always supported you, you are fixated on maligning me. You have contributed your quota in Nsugbe, please allow me to contribute mine to my community without dragging my name in the mud. I respect you as an elder brother and will always continue to do so but please remember that it is God who decides for all and not man.

A few days ago, you attended an event in Nsugbe and publicly accused someone of supporting me to “destroy Nsugbe” and I kept quiet. Yesterday, you appeared before Nsugbe Council of Elders and publicly accused me of destroying Nsugbe. I cringed after watching a video clip of your vituperations against me in which you also disclosed that you had reported me to my principal, the Governor. Who knows your intention for doing so?? Am I destroying Nsugbe by awarding scholarships to 10 Nsugbe people in the universities, for securing employment for over 20 Nsugbe people, for attracting solar powered borehole to each village in Nsugbe, for donating a Sienna for Nsugbe Vigilante, for the several admissions i have secured for our people, for recommending ndi Nsugbe for political appointments or for the developments I have lined up to attract, some of which I assume you know? If my offence is making efforts to contribute to the development of Nsugbe, don’t take it as political opposition but as a collective responsibility to develop our community. May be my father, Chief John Nweke who taught almost every family in Nsugbe passed his love for Nsugbe on to me and I want to do my bit. Please allow me to do so.

I will use this medium to beg you to make a volte-face, to cease fire so that Nsugbe will be united. You and I know that the energy and interest you have put into influencing who will become Igwe Nsugbe from Ivite is nothing compared to what anybody from Ivite has put in. I have not played any active role in respect of this igwe election as onye ivite but you have called and visited hundreds of people even though you are not from Ivite. To put it bluntly, you have been aggressive about it. A distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria occupies a very exalted office and I had advised you not to come out fully supporting one person aggressively against the other in your community but to be the leader of all. I learnt this lesson long ago and I abstain from even court cases that involve ndi Nsugbe on opposing sides so I don’t support a brother against another. I know you as one who doesn’t get involved in local politics but this time, you came fully out, ready to go to any length. What happened Distinguished Senator? If the problem is that my brother is the one contesting the election, please be reminded that I won’t be in government forever. We are all birds of passage, politically and in life. The divisions we are seeing now is due to the undue interference and politicising of the Igweship contest by those who are not from Ivite.

Enough of trying to pull me down. I thought that it would be a thing of joy to you that today, Nsugbe has produced a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and an Attorney General of the State just like we have produced distinguished senators. Aren’t we all supposed to be grateful to God and come together to build Nsugbe and build our youths. Never forget that history will judge us all.

I will plead with you to imbibe the igbo adage
“egbe belu, ugo belu”
