DAWN Commission Lauds Amotekun’s Achievements on Fifth Anniversary
The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, highlighting its significant contributions to regional security. Launched on January 9, 2020, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Amotekun was established to enhance security and foster integration across Nigeria’s South-West. In a statement by DAWN’s Director-General, Seye Oyeleye, the commission praised Amotekun for surpassing expectations and silencing critics, noting its professionalism and strong community trust. “Amotekun has shown that state-led security outfits can operate effectively without bias, protecting residents regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation,” Oyeleye stated. He also advocated for decentralised policing, citing Amotekun’s success as a model for addressing local security challenges. The commission commended the courage and sacrifice of Amotekun personnel and acknowledged the unwavering support of South-West governors, urging continued investment in the initiative to ensure sustained safety in the region.
