CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMME HOLDS ONE-DAY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR FRESH STUDENTS

The Continuing Education Programme (CEP) Unit of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on Friday held a one-day orientation programme for its fresh students. The orientation programme for the year one part-time students of the institution for the 2020/21 academic session is designed to empower the freshers to make a successful transition into the University environment, initiate and catalyse the process of higher learning as well as integrate students into the campus culture.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, FPSN, congratulated the fresh students on a great feat of gaining admission to study at UNIZIK. The Vice-Chancellor ably represented by the Director Academic Planning, Prof. Ike Odimegwu highlighted the mission and vision of the present administration which to ensure that by the end of the administration of Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, FPSN, the institution will be number one in the country, amongst the top 10 in Africa and ranked as one of the top 200 in the world.

In her remarks, the Director of CEP, Prof. Ngozi Agu stated that the essence of the programme is to orient the new student into the University environment and culture so they can take off their studentship sojourn on a stable ground. The scholar posited that the orientation will empower the new intakes to understand the structure of the institution which will aid their academic and social life. Prof. Agu disclosed that over 1000 students were admitted for the 2020/21 academic session and about 850 of them have accepted the admission to undertake the academic programme of the institution.

Highpoints of the occasion were Orientation lectures by members of the University management and principal officers of the institution. Prof. Frederick Odibo, DVC (Academic) lectured on University Academic Regulations; The University Registrar, Barr. Philomena Okoye represented by the Deputy Registrar (Council), Mrs Ogonna Nwokeke lectured on Administrative Organogram and Registration Guidelines in the University; The University Bursar, Dr. Joy Ojukwu talked on Students Financial Guidelines. Other lectures were Proper and Effective Use of the Library by the Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) N.S.I Anasi; Security Issues in and around the University by the Chief Safety Officer, Mr. Ken Chukwurah; Health Issues and Facilities in the University Medical Centre by the Director Medical Services, Prof. Lasbery Asomugha; Importance of General Studies (GS) Courses by Prof. B.A.C Obiefuna and Ethics, Student Affairs and Behaviours by Engr. Prof. Chinonso Achebe and the University Dress Code by Dr. Loyce Onyali.
