We’ll use volleyball to secure brighter future for Nigerian youths – LOC Chairman

James Pindar, Chairman, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the FCT Volleyball Challenge 2024, says the federation will use the sport to secure a better future for the Nigerian youths.

Pindar who said this at ongoing competition at the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja, noted that the competition was organised to contribute and support National Youths Development and National Security.

According to the chairman, the competition is also being organised to foster friendly relationships amongst volleyball players and enthusiasts within the FCT and its environ.

“The players selected during the competition will be capable of representing their team or state in any competitions in the country, as well as in international championships.

“The Championship is also targeted at positively engaging  youths and identifying talented volleyball players,” he said.

Pindar also said the essence of the competition is to sensitise and engage the youths in volleyball activities within the FCT, in view of the security challenges.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports  that a total of 54 teams are  participating  in the maiden edition of the Volleyball Challenge, with more than 20 matches played in day one of the competition holding across four venues.

The venues are: Mogadishu Cantonment Asokoro, Mambilla Barracks Asokoro, Life Camp Volleyball club pitch Jabi lake and Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium.

NAN report that in the opening match of day played at the Mogadishu cantonment Super Spikers defeated Thrillers Spikers VC  2-0 (25-0, 25-0), in the men’s category.

It was the Life Camp VC who had the upper hand against Lugbe VC 2-0 (25-23, 25-17) at the Life Camp Court, while Victory VC overpowered  De Friends 2-0 (25-20, 25-16) also in the men’s game.

Also in the men category, Elite VC  lost 1-2 to  Games Village  (27-25, 21-25, 15-13), while Hawk City Spikers  VC also lost 1-2 to  Dominion Spikers VC (25-19, 11-25, 15-10).

Elsewhere, Karu United VC defeated ECWA  VC  2-0 (25-7, 25-16), while LifeCamp VC outclassed Victory VC 2-1 (25-17 ,28-30, 15-9).

In the women category, Lugbe VC showed class against  ECWA VC 2-0 (25-17, 25-21), as LifeCamp  VC won  ECWA  VC by 2-0 (25-12, 25-10), while Karu United VC  recorded a sweet victory over Victory VC 2-0 (25-18, 25-20).

Also in the women’s category played at the Mambila Barracs, Scorpion Spikers VC  humbled De Friends Spikers VC  2-0 (25-7, 25-21), while Greatest Spikers VC lost  1-2 to Elite Spikers VC (25-23,18-25,10-15).

NAN reports that maiden edition of the FCT Volleyball Challenge which  started on Thursday is expected  to end on Monday at the Indoor Hall, package B, Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja. (NAN)
