Sequel to the special sanitation exercise kicked off by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State last week Community leaders have commended the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area(INLGA), Hon. Chuks Igboanua for desilting of drains and prompt evacuating of filth in the communities.

Speaking to our reporter, the President General of Uke Community, Mr Peter Onyejegbu commended the INLGA Chairman for following the vision of Prof Soludo towards ensuring a clean and liveable Anambra State. “The hard-working Chairman has started on a good note. The desilting is very commendable and should be sustained”.

According to another community leader, Mr. David Idemili of Amafor village Nkpor, we have not seen it like this before, infact this is unprecedented. Before, government will tell you clean your gutters, you will do it only for it to be left as an eyesore on the roads and rains will return it back to the gutters making matters worse.

“We thank our Mayor for ensuring a cleaner environment. Now, there will be easier passage of flood through the drains. Flood will not overflow the main roads and damage the roads which is very difficult to reconstruct except for the recent intervention of Governor Soludo,” said Idemili.

Moreso, a Youth Progressive Party Chieftain, Mr Godwin Molokwu, Chairman, Urudiora Kindred Ogidiani Ogidi after commending Chief Igboanua urged him to sustain the desilting and evacuation of debris.

“Even though we are not from the same political party but when I see someone doing well I commend him. I wish the LG Boss does not politicize it but make it permanent at least for a year. If possible, Let him appoint contractors from each of the 10 communities in the LGA that will be ensuring prompt evacuation of filth,” said Molokwu.

However, the Chairman thanked the residents, traders for complying with the desilting “We engaged labourers to use the shovels to throw the wastes into the tippers although they were slow but the disilting is a continuous exercise. We directed residents and everyone to bring the wastes outside for evacuation,” said Igboanua.

The INLGA Chairman further directed residents to commence desilting of the drainages in front of their buildings, and to also monitor and report the activities of Contract refuse evacuators that supposed to come twice or thrice a week in every street to cart away refuse properly tied in sacks collected from households.

“As rainy season approaches We want every compound to join us by endeavoring to desilt drainages in front of their place of residence, workshops and business premises to enable easy passage of water. This will avoid flooding and damage on the roads. Once that is done our tippers and laborers will be moving round to evacuate them from the roads and streets.

” I know we have not got it 100percent but the Deputy Governor, Ibezim has plans to achieve 100percent on environmental cleanliness. Even the governor is about employing about 2000 sweepers to help achieve a clean and liveable Anambra State,” said Igboanua.
