Commendations trail Anambra Assembly One Year Anniversary

Members of the Seventh Anambra State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, marked one year anniversary with a pontifical mass at the Assembly Complex.

Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano attended the mass officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor.

The pontifical mass complied with the COVID-19 protocols including face masking and social distancing, among others.

While commending them for the unity existing among them, Governor Obiano who expressed satisfaction that the house members chose to end their first year with God. called on them to endeavour to make the remaining three years very productive.

Governor Obiano who reiterated that Eke Awka market has been closed for two weeks for failure of traders and buyers to comply with the COVID-19 protocols, asked the lawmakers to go back to their respect constituencies and mount sensitization on COVID-19 safety protocols.

The Governor thanked the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies for maintaining effective security network in the state , especially now that they are undergoing ariel surveillance of the state, urging them to be more decisive inorder to achieve desired result.

In his speech, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor expressed satisfaction that the Assembly has not disappointed the state so far ,noting that the occassion affords them the opportunity for stock taking.

While enumerating some of their achievements in the last one year, Rt Hon. Okafor assured that they will not relent in their duties of representation, lawmaking and oversight, and disclosed that a total of nineteen bills comprising executive and member bills, have been presented to the Seventh Assembly, out of which ten have been passed and five assented into law.

He pledged that Seventh Assembly will continue to promote the existing cordial relationship between the executive and legislature, stressing that it is erroneous to posit that the arms of government must be at each others throat for democracy to be seen as working, as it negates the spirit and intent of the constitution which supports a level of cooperation among the arms.

Earlier In a homily, Bishop Ezeokafor commended the leadership of the Assembly, as well as the cordial relationship between the executive and the legislature.
