CHRSJ to join Nationwide Community Campaign against IKEDC,IBEDC

    …..To kick off in Otemuyi-Adiyan Zone over illegal disconnection

A human rights organization, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has declared readiness to join the nationwide community campaign against the electricity distribution companies, particularly, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over what it termed as illegal disconnection, irregular power supply, crazy/estimate billing and extortion of their consumers in
Otemuyi-Adiyan area of
Lagos state.

The rights group also disclosed that one Mr. Ademuyiwa Sheu Abdulkabir with phone number:- -(+234 8037242181) , of No. 4,Aderesh Close, Otemuyi-Adiyan and a Taylor Shop owner,Biskem Fashion Designer with phone number :-(+234 8028612222), of No.1,Titilade Alade,Ita Alhaji Bus Stop, Otemuyi-Adiyan inside, Lagos, have been the recent victims of the electricity distribution company by threatening them with illegal disconnection after obtained pre-paid meter because the duo
refused to give bribe to IKEDC officials.

It alleged that one Mrs. Nurat Omolara with phone number:-(+234
8169080145), has also been the recent victim of IBEDC in Awo town, the headquarters of Egbedore Local Government area of Osun State. An official of IBEDC called Musa with phone:-(+234 8067324237) and unknouwn official of IBEDC with phone number:-.(+234 80638797) have caught in the web of bribery taken from this innocent woman and nothing was done to her light predicament that
to extort her by these officials.

It further alleged an official of the IKEDC called Mrs. Pat Mbata with
Phone number:- (+234 8033457801), of behind the illegal disconnection
threats of epileptic power supply to Mr. Sheu Abdulkabir and Biskem
Fashion Designer Shop at Otemuyi-Adiyan area of Lagos State.

According to the signed statement by the CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman,Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman and copies were made available to newsmen on Monday,
maintained that the group had concluded arrangement to commence his community
campaign rally on the subject matter from the IKEDC office in
Otemuyi-Adiyan Zone and it might lead to the picketing of their office
in the area.

Comrade Sulaiman who called on the people of the area to wake up from their slumber and fight for their constitutional rights of access to regular power supply, reiterating that CHRSJ would also begin the
sensitization of the people of the area on their plight to have access
to regular power supply.

He then called on the authority of IKEDC to call their official,Pat
Mbata,to order on the illegal disconnection threats of their
electricity with no offence than refused to give her bribe after
installation of Pre-paid meter in their buildings,adding that
authority of IBEDC should also caution their officials in the ancient
Awo town of Osun state.

It would be recalled that Where’s The Light Movement had commenced the nationwide Community Enlightenment Campaign for 24/7 Regular Electricity Supply in Nigeria in Alimosho Local Government of Lagos on Saturday, February 20, 2021.

The Campaign with the theme: “March Against Darkness, Electricity is a Right, Not a Privilege, the nationwide campaign is to sensitize citizens and communities to demand for free prepaid meter, to reject crazy estimated billing, demand the reversal of tariff to N13.2 kwh, demand twenty-four hours regular power supply and ultimately demand a reversion to public
ownership of the Power Sector under the democratic control and management of all stakeholders since the privatization has shown to be fraudulent and is worse than public ownership.

The Movement Convener, Comrade Sina Odugbemi and the secretary,Comrade Chinedu Bosah noted that “The community, tcrayon trial and online campaign, will be conducted through rallies, seminars, stakeholders interface, media, drama kit, visual and material campaigns including
millions of posters, handbills, t-shirts, faze caps, wristbands and
other materials. The funding in kind or cash will be community-based and supports from public-spirited individuals and organizations who are desirous of getting Nigeria out of decades of darkness, regular power failure, crazy billing, corruption and ineptitude which got worse after the so-called privatization and unbundling of the power sector.

The nationwide campaign is with the sole aim of ensuring that the
country is getting out of years of darkness.
