Christian Council of Nigeria Condemns Abuse of Women and Children

The Women’s Wing of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, has strongly condemned the ongoing violence against women and children in the country. During a rally held in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Chairperson of the wing, Elizabeth Bola Asa, expressed outrage over issues such as rape, child defilement, and domestic violence, particularly women being beaten by their husbands. Asa emphasized that women are not slaves and deserve to be treated with dignity, asserting their right to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation in any capacity. She stated, “Women can hold any political office, whether as members of the state and national assemblies, governors, or even president.” The chairperson called for an end to the abuse of women and girls, demanding equal rights and stricter action against perpetrators of rape and murder. She urged the government to arrest, prosecute, and punish offenders according to the law, regardless of their social status. “We are not drums to be beaten at will,” Asa concluded, expressing the group’s frustration with the continued mistreatment of women and girls.
