CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT INAUGURATES 14TH ONICCIMA PRESIDENT

Chief Kevin Obieri, a Chartered Accountant, has been installed as the 14th President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA).

Obieri who holds the traditional title of Akajiegbe, Akokwa in Imo State was inaugurated last Wednesday at Sharon Hall, Onitsha in a well attend ceremony.
In his speech shortly before his inauguration, the Chairman of South East Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Humphrey Ngonadi, lamented the rather indifferent disposition of South East Governors on issues of the chamber’s movement.


Ngonadi who stood in for the National President of National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Ide John Udeagbala, said that in the other part of the country, Governors welcome chambers movement with open hands but it is not so in the South East.

He advised Governors of the South East to change their attitude towards the chambers’ movement in the zone to improve business opportunities of their people.

He advised Chief Obieri to consolidate on the successes achieved by his predecessors and carry the members along so as to achieve his set out programmes.

Obieri who joined the Chamber’s movement in 2006, replaced Pham. Chris Ukachukwu, who concluded his tenure this December after a brilliant leadership.

Others who were elected to serve with Obieri in the leadership of Organised Private Sector (OPS) in Onitsha include, Chief Odikpo Anyadifu, 1st deputy president, Chinedu Nwonu, second deputy president, Sunny Nwachukwu (PhD), Vice-President, Finance, Justin Okaro, Vice President, Public Relations, Ejike Efobi, Legal Adviser among others.

Obieri in his remarks at the event thanked his colleagues in the chamber for the trust reposed on him by electing him to lead them.
He assured them of his commitment to lead the organised private sector to the next level and improve the quality of the business environment of Onitsha through consistent advocacy that chamber’s movement is known for.

The chartered accountant promised to complete the chamber’s secretariat under construction, which was kick-started by Ukechukwu, the outgone president.

He said that his administration will continue to play the advocacy role for Onitsha business community to ensure ease of doing business in the commercial town.

Chief Obieri stressed the need for Onitsha business community to begin to pay living wage to its workers, saying that the current poor remuneration does not encourage economic development and the attraction of the best of the young professionals to the town.
The high point of the occasion was the award given to Chief GUO Okeke for his support to the chamber and former President of the chamber, Mr. Donatus Ebubeogu.
