The Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Centre (HRCRC) says it recorded
130 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and other forms of dispute in the state between January and July.

The HRCRC Director, Mr George Etameso, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Abakaliki on Friday.

Etameso said the cases covered family and communal land disputes, domestic violence and custody of children,
human rights abuses, forced marriages and peace building.

He added that some of the cases are pending, while others have been transferred to appropriate authorities.

He said that the centre collaborated with the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, community leaders
and stakeholders to intervene in some conflict areas in the state.

The HRCRC director noted that there had been an upsurge of people who volunteered their time, talent and resources
to the work of peace building and conflict resolution, especially from the hinterlands.

He added that “the news of peace building and conflict resolution has filtered down to the villages.

“Many people come out to participate in the training of the foundation and step down the messages
to their respective communities.

“Today, we have people from the villages that visit our office asking to join in the peace work.”

Etameso advised the public to report cases of GBV to the appropriate authorities for further action and punishment of offenders.
