Breaking: Police arraign Chief Sir Izuchukwu Nwabueze over fraud

The Zone 13 of the Nigerian Police, Ukpo, Anambra State has arraigned one of the traditional cabinet members of Ukpo community , Izuchukwu Nwabueze before a margistrate court sitting in Ukpo, Dunukofia L GA of Anambra state for allegedly obtaining money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of being an aide to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone.

However the magistrate , M.N Ibeneme after listening to the Prosecution counsel present the seven count charge against the suspect, also heard from the Defence counsel who told the court that the issue involving his client was politically motivated and meant to intimidate the suspect.

While the prosecution counsel told the court to detain the suspect on the grounds of the gravity of the offence for which he was being charged the Defence Counsel argued that his client, Izuchukwu Nwabueze was a cabinet member in Ukpo and a Bishop nominee in Nnewi Diocese as well as a reputable character that can not jump bail due to his pedigree.

The magistrate , having listened to their submissions granted bail to the suspect with a surety of one million naira , three years tax clearance paper, and must be resident withing the jurisdiction of the court.

He called on the prosecution counsel to provide the witnesses in the matter for the next adjourned date for further hearing into the matter.
Reacting the Prosecution counsel and Superintendent of Police, Mr C.I Obi described the bail ruling as the decision of the court which is final.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Jack Iyioku said the magistrate exercised his discretion judiciously on the bail permission.

The matter was adjourned to the twenty third (23rd) of October 2020 for witnesses to appear before the court sitting in Ukpo, Dunukofia local government area.
