Bolt Becomes First Licensed Ride-Hailing Service in Anambra State

Bolt, a prominent ride-hailing platform, has made history by becoming the first e-hailing company to secure an official operational license from the Anambra State government. This landmark achievement aligns with the state’s newly implemented e-hailing regulations, designed to streamline and regulate the growing ride-hailing sector.
The license, granted by the Ministry of Transportation, enables Bolt to operate legally throughout the state, providing residents and visitors with safe, reliable, and affordable transportation. While Bolt has been operational in Anambra for some time, the absence of a regulatory framework previously left the industry without formal guidelines.
Speaking during the licensing ceremony, Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Patricia Ifeoma Igwebuike, emphasized the significance of the development.
“This represents a major milestone in our state’s transportation landscape. We are confident Bolt will deliver safe, reliable, and affordable transportation solutions while fostering economic growth,” she said.
The company highlighted its collaborative engagement with the Anambra State Ministry of Transportation, which began under the previous administration but culminated recently with the formalization of the state’s e-hailing regulations.
Despite the region’s growing urbanization and economic vibrancy, security concerns in Anambra remain a significant hurdle. The state has been plagued by increasing violence, attributed to separatist groups and other non-state actors. However, Bolt has expressed confidence in its security infrastructure, assuring both drivers and riders of their safety.
“We are committed to implementing comprehensive safety measures tailored to address security challenges in all our operational regions,” Bolt stated.
The company also acknowledged the economic impact of disruptions like the Southeast’s Monday sit-at-home orders but remains optimistic about the state’s market potential.
Bolt’s entry into Anambra is expected to provide substantial economic benefits, including job creation, increased transportation options, and enhanced connectivity. The company views Anambra as a lucrative market, driven by urbanization, economic activity, and the demand for affordable transportation.
