Bill to establish Federal University Lafia Teaching Hospital Passes First Reading

A bill initiated by Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-makura representing Nasarawa South for an Act to establish Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, today Tuesday passed first reading in the Senate.

According to Senator Al-Makura, there shall be established in Lafia a teaching hospital, to be known as the Federal Teaching Hospital Lafia, for the purpose of providing such facilities for the training of medical students as are usually provided by teaching hospitals of internationally high repute.

Equally, Sen. Al-Makura in another separate Bill seeks to amend the University Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) Act No. 10 1985 to include an additional Teaching Hospital in Lafia in order to increase the number of Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria.

Sen. Al-Makura has so far sponsored and co-sponsored bills as well as several landmark motions in the short period of his entry to the Senate, making him one of the most active lawmakers of the 9th Senate.
