There was jubilation on Thursday after traffic continued on the Anambra State end of the Onitsha-Owerri Road.

A collapsed section of the road had caused gridlock and pain to travellers, leading to calls for the intervention of the Federal Government.

The Federal Controller of Works in Anambra State, Adeyemo Ajani, who took journalists on a tour of the road, said the problem was caused by a flood from the heavy rain in the area.

He said, “When the flood began to cause havoc on the nearby premises of the Metallurgical Training Institute, the institute blocked the gutter through which flood water was supposed to flow out from its side.

“Having identified the problem and with heavy traffic, we had to call one of our contractors to give us some assistance.

“We are happy to announce that the road has been reinstated and restored.

“The cause of the problem is that a section of the line drain was blocked around the dumpsite and flood was diverted to the road.

“This caused the collapse of a section of the road.  We have unblocked the culvert and normal flow has resumed. We hope nobody will block it again, otherwise, that person should be seen as an enemy of this nation.”

Some motorists, who spoke to our correspondent, commended the government for fixing the road.
