Esoga, was paraded alongside Kachi Nwalolo, 21, and eleven others, by the Imo state commissioner of police, Rabiu Ladodo for offences which ranged from armed robbery, kidnap and deaths of victims, among others.

The suspect told newsmen that his greatest concern now is forgiveness from his mother, who he said raised him well, to shun criminality.

“Please call my mother for me. I want to apologise to her for not being a son she wanted me to be. Please bring my mother to me, I want to apologise to her”, he begged.

He said constant intimidation from bad boys in Ekeonunwa market pushed him to embrace crime.

Esoga said “Constant intimidation by Owerri people led me to crime. They were always intimidating me and taking my goods on Douglas Road. Everybody was always afraid of them. When I got fed up, I decided to join one of the gangs so as to stop them, since being a hard guy is what people respect”.

Reeling from pains sustained from gun shot wounds, the suspect said he was sorry for his actions even as he maintained that the Owerri bad boys pushed him to crime.

Imo State Police Commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo said Esoga and his gang members were responsible for many crimes while dressed in Nigerian Army and police uniforms, using taxis and buses.

Ladodo said they were into armed robbers,  abducting and killing innocent persons, adding that they were already declared wanted by the state government.

According to him, the arrest of the suspects was a major breakthrough for the command because residents and traders at the busy Douglas Road and other adjoining roads and streets in Owerri can now heave a sigh of relief.

Some of items recovered from the suspects, included guns, a Glo SIM card and three MTN SIM cards.

He said “I am happy and walking tall because of this wonderful breakthrough. I commend the SARS commander , Victor Godfrey, and his team for an exceptional job. Already, they have made confessional statements about their involvement in robbery and killings”.
