Bayelsa bans illegal mining statewide
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has ordered a ban on all unauthorised mining across the state’s eight LGAs, warning community leaders against signing MoUs with illegal operators.
The move targets the mining of silicon (“black sand”) in coastal areas, citing environmental, health, and security risks. Violators face arrest and prosecution, and all existing unauthorised agreements are declared null and void.
