Awka Millennium City: Obiano Calls for more investments in Anambra

Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has made a call to Anambra state indigenes to return home and tap from the wealth of opportunities available in the state.

Governor Obiano who made the call during the Official groundbreaking of the construction site of awka millennium city project and inauguration of the construction facilities adding that Anambra state is currently the best state for investment opportunities due to its water tight security network and enabling ground for businesses. 


Inaugurating the millennium city construction site, Obiano commended the MP infrastructure team led by its Group CEO, Dr. Clem Nwogbo for thinking it right to return home and invest. He further encouraged Ndi Anambra at home and in diaspora to invest in the opportunities that MP infrastructure has provided in the state and support in their plan to turn Anambra capital to mega city.

He further described Awka millennium city as a smart city that is different from other similar projects seen anywhere while he also noted that the project will contain many installations like electricity and structures that will give it a befitting look like what is obtainable in most developed cities across the world.

While addressing the teeming dignitaries that included the who is who in Anambra state, top government heads, members of the state house of Assembly, traditional rulers, Business partners, corporate bodies and others, the Group CEO M-P Infrastructure Ltd Mr. Clem Nwogbo said that Awka Millennium City is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project between Anambra State Government and M-P Infrastructure Ltd, a multi-sectoral investor in power, telecommunications, agriculture and infrastructure projects across Africa.


Dr. Clem Nwogbo said  that M-P Infrastructure was established to consolidate and streamline the entire value chain  in the Infrastructure service business as well as provide world class solutions to address and meet  needs of the people and reduce  cost of Infrastructure acquisition across Africa.


He further noted that the initiative is part of governor Willie Obiano’s  vission of transforming  Awka to a befitting capital city which  the indigenes home and diaspora would be proud of. He said the project is one of the aspiration of Anambra people to create  a new face of a befitting capital city assuring that MP Infrastructure is committed leadership of Obiano to deliver  on their promises and justify the massive support and trust bestowed on them.

In his brief speech, the MD/ CEO of Anambra state investment promotion and protection agency, ANSIPPA, Mr. Jide Ikeako said the project is in collaboration between ANSIPPA, the ministry of land, physical planning and urban development and awka capital development agency.


He disclosed that Awka millennium city project is aimed at developing 100 hectares of land in awka with lots of benefit to the people of Anambra state. ” Awka millennium city project is a project to develop 100 hectares of land  in Awka. It is a new city in awka to develop in phases. The project will go a long way in solving the housing problem in Anambra state and will also transform the face of the capital territory.

” when we chose the MPI , we were fully convinced that they will perform. This project has benefit for Anambra state as it has created over 300 jobs directly and 2,000 indirect jobs for the people of Anambra.” 


In his remark, the commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Mike Okonkwo said that the ministry of Housing is doing everything in its powers to close the gap in housing provision in Anambra state through the help of private sector under PPP which is what brought in MPI.


He reiterated that days are gone when people were doing land speculation by carving out lands in the bushes but assured that the new development nestled in middle of awka capital has different levels of qualitative housing which is in line with Gov. Obiano’s early vision for the state.
