ASUU VS FG INTRIGUES: What the public should know – Dr. Ichor Smart

1
  1. Presidential directive for payment of salaries to ASUU members who are not on IPPIS is not a palliative measure at all. The said salaries are the rewards for their labour and not because of covid 19 pandemic. How is it a palliative for the pandemic?
  2. The bank has instructed her customers not to disclose their bvn to anybody which includes the accountant general of federation. How will I give mine to him as if I dont have account number where my salaries will be paid in to.
  3. We can’t guarantee the genuineness of IPPIS following the quantum deductions or reduction in salaries of other members of staff of the university that have enrolled on the platform. Its a scam
  4. The claim that Lecturers receive salaries in more than one University is false and a diversionary strategy to mislead the public. Let those peddling the lies go to NUC the regulatory agency of the university and learn. There is provision for visiting, part time lecturers and contract academic staff in the university. All of these have scores attached during accreditation of courses in the university by NUC. Its hard to get a Nigerian University that is self sustaining in all academic programs hence adjunct staff becomes inevitable.
  5. The Nigerian government can hardly employ to meet the manpower requirements of universities especially academic staff. Why are they pretending?
  6. No university in Nigeria can boast of attaining and maintaining the global staff – student ratio hence our 2009 agreement with FG on earned allowance (excess workload) which government has failed to implement. Why are they misleading the public to put university teachers in bad light?
  7. I always pity my students anytime I go to teach them in horrible and inadequate lecture rooms in academic blocks without toilet facilities. Its difficult to curb open defection in any Nigerian university hence the demand of ASUU for improved funding.
  8. The corruption with university funds may exist as far as university councils permit. The majority are appointed by the government. No lecturer has access to university allocation, employment except principal officers which are monitored by University Council, so why will any reasonable government blame teachers?
  9. No Nigerian government has been sincere on the delivery of quality education to her citizenry. Teachers are hated and is an age long phenomenon. Jesus the great teacher was killed but today before you crucify university teachers, we must yearn the facts.
    Thank you.
