ASUU UNIZIK CHAPTER HONOURS 64 RETIREES

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIZIK Chapter on Thursday held a special congress at the newly completed ASUU NAU Secretariat complex to honour sixty-four of its members who have retired from active service to the institution.

The congress which was the first of its kind saw the official opening of the beautiful edifice to the members of the ASUU NAU chapter after the complex had in the month of June hosted the national leadership for the 21st National Delegate Conference which culminated in the commissioning of the complex and election of a new leadership for the union at the national level. The special congress honoured members of the union who retired between 2012 to 2020 from active service.

Reacting after the congress, the Chair ASUU NAU Chapter, Comrade Engr. Dr Steve Ufoaroh stated that the special congress was convened to officially open up the new complex to ASUU NAU chapter members and to honour retired members for their meritorious service and sacrifice to the union, the University and the country at large. Comrade Ufoaroh posited that the exercise will now be an annual event for the ASUU NAU Chapter.

Ufoaroh also informed that the tenure of the present EXCO will soon elapse and the union will have a new EXCO by the 14th of July 2021 in the aftermath of the election. The union leader also said that the second phase of the ASUU NAU Complex will soon commence with a business complex anticipated which will house the NUPEMCO office and ASUU Cooperative while also revealing that the third phase will see the construction of the Guest House.

Ufoaroh urged members of the ASUU NAU Chapter to be resolute in the struggle and believe that victory will be achieved soonest as ASUU believes in justice, equity and fairness which can only be achieved with understanding and cooperation by its members.
