ASUU: UNIZIK CHAIRMAN BAGS AWARD AS MOST INSPIRING LEADER OF THE YEAR

The Chairperson, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) NAU Chapter, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh on Thursday, 6th January 2022, was honoured with an award as the ‘Most Inspiring Leader of the Year.’ The Award event is a project being promoted by five Organizations – Tour Nigeria Communication, Anambra People Magazine, Akulueuno Foundation, 100 Achievers and Igbere TV.

The award was presented to Comrade Ufoaroh on the occasion of the Anambra Man of the Year Award 2021 with the theme ‘The Next Anambra’ held at the Stanel Dome Awka, Anambra State. Presenting the award to Comrade Ufoaroh was the former Director of UNIZIK FM Radio and first female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna who extolled the leadership qualities of the Union leader. Okunna stated that the recipient of the award was well chosen and well deserved in recognition of his valuable contributions to the Ivory Tower and the Education sector.

In his reaction, Ufoaroh eulogized the organizers for the idea behind such event, the scholar revealed that when he got the invitation he was skeptical about showing up but was reassured that the essence of the event is to celebrate excellence. The union leader assured Ndi Anambra that his leadership will continue to support the growth of humanity through service to the University Community via teaching, research and community service. He also said that the award is dedicated to God Almighty for his grace and mercy, and all members of the ASUU NAU family for providing the needed support to ASUU NAU leadership in the last three years.

Ufoaroh as a union leader has known laudable progress and milestones, notable among them is the completion of the Ultramodern Secretariat of the union which is believed to be one of the best Secretariats of the union in Nigeria. Under his chairmanship, over 90 indigent students from UNIZIK has been awarded scholarships between the year 2020 and 2021.

Comrade Stephen Uchenna Ufoaroh hails from Ifitedunu in Dunukofia LGA of Anambra State. The scholar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, UNIZIK, he also served as Chairman Ifitedunu town Union Education Committee. He has over fifteen awards to his credit and capacity for leadership, his love for God’s work in his vineyard has not gone unnoticed as the National Director, Evangelical Fellowship of the Anglican Communion Students Ministry (EFACSM) in higher institutions in Nigeria between 2007 to 2016.
