ASATU To Collaborate with ASWAMA On Proper Waste Disposal In Communities

As an aspect of the undertaking to have a cleaner and healthier state, the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, has settled to partner with the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA on proper waste disposal and environmental sanitation in all the communities in the State.

This was the cardinal issue at a one-day consultative meeting held between Anambra State Waste Management Board (ASWAMA) and the National Executive Officers of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) at the Government House, Awka.

Addressing the meeting, the Board Chairman of ASWAMA, Dr Emma Ezenwaji said the position of ASATU leaders at the grassroots will help them to implement government policies and programmes, requesting for full support and cooperation of the association towards waste management in the state by sensitizing the communities on the importance of proper waste disposal.

Dr Ezenwaji said that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo administration is working hard for a better Anambra State and requested ASATU to ensure that all communities keyed into whatever they do for a prosperous and livable state.

Responding, the National President of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo commended ASWAMA Board for inviting the association to collaborate in fighting against indiscriminate waste disposal and expressed their readiness to work with the Board for a cleaner Anambra State.

Barrister Akpudo noted that as the fourth tier of government nearest to the people, the desire of the association is to serve their respective communities better and reciprocate the trust bestowed on them and maintain their support to the present administration in the state.

He further suggested some vital methods that may be adopted for the success of waste management in the State and solicit inputs from other members, promising that they will assist in sensitizing the citizens on government policies and programmes on waste management which he said is one of the citizen’s civic responsibilities.

Other Executive Officers of the association at the meeting also added their suggestions on methods to get rid of wastes in the State.
