APGA National Chairman Decries Junk Journalism, Chats A Way Forward With NUJ Anambra State Council

The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa has extolled the Anambra State Council of the NUJ for mapping out a particular time of the year to celebrate Journalists and their activities in the State.

Speaking at a media chat with the NUJ, Barr. Ezeokenwa noted that such an exercise would foster cohesion and enhance professionalism for the journalists, especially in these days when junk journalism is trending with untrained citizen journalists who tend to override the core professional journalists.

He decried the trend of fake news and sensational reportage circulating online, pointing out that the traditional media practitioners should as a matter of urgency drive the social media in terms of strict adherence to the ethics of the profession and called for training and retraining of journalists to avoid infringements on other people’s rights on the altar of exercising the freedom of information and expression.

While commending the NUJ Anambra State Council for identifying with APGA, Barr. Ezeokenwa noted that the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo who is also the national leader of APGA has shown in unmistakable terms that APGA is a progressive and people oriented party with his unprecedented developmental strides.

He referred to the seed capital of 2 billion naira doled out to the graduands of the 1 Youth 2 Skills initiative which is in line with his promise of a human capital development agenda of churning out 1000 youth millionaires annually, adding that the ripple effects of that singular project will have a multiplier effect on the state economy in no distant time.

Continuing, the APGA National Chairman observed that APGA as a party has devised some ways to bring a positive change to Nigeria, pointing out that the APGA DRIVE AGENDA which comprises Discipline, Rebranding, Inclusivity, Visibility, and Expansion is a roadmap to repositioning the party to make in roads into other parts of Nigeria.

In his words, “Anambra State has done well in almost all key indices of development, including education, agriculture, ease of doing business, healthcare and so on, leaving the State at ‘A’ level under APGA leadership that sets the pace in governance with modernization, unlike what obtains with other political parties in the country with lots of baggage or debts to pay to sustain ones election”.

On the just concluded 2023 Presidential Election matter in which the Supreme Court has pronounced Ahmed Tinubu as the President of Nigeria, Barr. Ezeokenwa expressed empathy with the concerns of Nigerians over the judgement of the Apex Court which he said is final and infallible, hence binding on all authorities.

He commended the two key contenders for their courage to challenge the result of the election in the court of law, urging all Nigerians to remain calm with a firm belief that Nigeria will get better some day.

On the fuel subsidy regime, Barr. Ezeokenwa called on Mr. President to bring to book all those behind the scam as the hardship is biting too hard on Nigerians.

Earlier, the State Chairman of NUJ Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, represented by the Vice Chairman, Ngozi Obileri appreciated the National Chairman of APGA, Barr. Ezeokenwa for making out time for a media chat with the NUJ, to mark the 2023 NUJ Press Week.

The Chairman described the APGA National Chairman as a young man with a vision that is capable of turning around the fortunes of the party, adding that the NUJ has mapped out a week-long activities to celebrate journalism and journalists in the State.

The event featured questions and answers that touched on both national and local issues of public concern.
