The Lagos Branch of the Association of Orumba North Town Peoples Union (AONTPU) will hold its Cultural Day on Oct. 17 to promote the preservation of the cultural heritage of Orumba North.
The branch chairman, Engr. Osita Ogbaji, disclosed this in an interview on Oct. 7, ahead of the event, which has the theme, “Our Culture, Our Way of Life.”
Ogbaji said the event would showcase the culture, values and traditions of Orumba North and encourage younger people to appreciate their heritage.
He said the initiative was intended to promote cultural awareness and ensure that traditional values were passed on to future generations.
“The younger generation can only give out what they have learnt from us,” he said, emphasising the need for parents and community leaders to teach young people their cultural values and traditions.
The chairman urged indigenes to participate actively in community affairs, saying such involvement would strengthen their ties to their homeland.
He added that active participation would encourage members to promote Igbo culture wherever they lived.
Ogbaji also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the development of Orumba North through its support for the “Think Home” (Akuluo Uno) initiative.
He said indigenes had a responsibility to preserve their cultural heritage and contribute to the development of their homeland, regardless of where they resided.
