Anglican women, Diocese on the Niger, Anambra State, have vented strong indignation over what they described as misplacement of priorities by politicians, accusing them of considering 2027 election more important than solving current problems challenging the nation.
According to the women, "Nigerians are suffering, and history will not forgive a leader who pursues power over people".
The President, Diocese on the Niger Women Ministry, Dr Elsie Nonyelum Nwokolo, expressed the mind of the women, Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the address she delivered at the on-going annual conference of the women at St Paul's Anglican Church, Oba, Idemili South of the state.
The women leader had in the 84-page address specifically blamed the federal executive authorities for the apparent misnomer.
She remarked in part, "We also observe that the current administration appears very much preoccupied with the 2027 political race while neglecting the burning issues rocking the entire nation now.
"Insecurity is spreading, hunger is deepening, electricity is unreliable, fuel prices are unbearable, and the Naira continues to weaken.
"These are not problems to be postponed or overlooked; they require urgent, bold action today. The President, Bola Tinubu, ought to shift his focus from campaigning to proper, result-oriented governance", she emphasized.
While lamenting the plight of women in the country as a result of the present state of the nation, Dr (Mrs) Nwokolo said, "We, women, especially, are bearing the brunt of the economic hardship as we struggle to feed and protect our families.
"It is our opinion that this is not the time for political calculations, it is rather a time for compassionate leadership.
"True greatness lies in solving problems, not just winning elections. We therefore call on the government to rise to its responsibility and give Nigerians relief; now, not in 2027", she pleaded.
Also, commenting on the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025, Dr (Mrs) Nwokolo stressed the need for peaceful election in the state.
"As Anambra State prepares for the Governorship Election, this conference appeals that Ndi Anambra must unite in demanding peace, fairness, and transparency.
"The election should not be a do-or-die affair. It must not be marred by violence, vote-buying, or any form of electoral malpractices and intimidation.
"We appeal to all the women in the state to take active roles as voters, observers, and advocates of peace.
"When elections are credible, leaders are accountable. Let us reject thuggery and embrace peace and unity in diversity," she added .
She appealed to religious and community leaders to preach peace before, during and after the election while, urging security agencies to be neutral, saying, "A free and fair election guarantees that our voices are heard and our children’s future protected.
"We pray, let peace reign in Anambra", the women leader wished.
About 7,000 women delegates attended the conference among who were representatives from Anglican Churches in Anambra and beyond all of who with one voice endorsed the address launching it with various amounts of money.
