Anglican Bishop berates Tinubu over subsidy removal

The Anglican Bishop of Amichi Diocese, in Anambra State, Rt Rev Ephraim Ikeakor, has expressed dissatisfaction with the federal government’s announcement of removal of oil subsidy describing it as ill timed.

The cleric made this known during a press conference and inspection visit at St Philip Anglican Church Eziama Amichi, in Nnewi South LGA, venue of the forthcoming 3rd Session of the 5th synod of the diocese.

The Bishop who though acknowledged the need to remove the oil subsidy, emphasized that even if that should take effect, there was need to put in place a palliatives that will cushion its effect on the citizenry.

While Ikeakor stressed the need for salary increments for workers at all levels, he said government should have considered the provision of affordable transport system, and wide consultation of critical stakeholders before removing the subsidy.
