The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to reposition Christian pilgrimage, promote religious tourism and expand opportunities for more Ndi Anambra, irrespective of their economic status.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pilgrims Affairs, Hon. Barr. Odira Ezeh, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of Awka.

Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, received the delegation at his residence.
Barr. Ezeh said the Soludo administration remained committed to restoring Anambra’s prominence in Christian pilgrimage while maximizing its spiritual, cultural and economic benefits.

He announced plans for a Christian Pilgrimage Exchange Programme to attract international visitors to Nigeria, while developing pilgrimage destinations in Anambra, including Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi Shrine, Aguleri.

The SSA also disclosed plans for a sponsored lottery scheme to provide more residents opportunities to participate in pilgrimage, particularly those who may not benefit from existing sponsorship programmes.

He announced plans for an Anambra State Pilgrimage Summit at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Awka, with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as Chief Host and Deputy Governor as Host.

Barr. Ezeh said Most Revd Dr. Peter Cardinal Ebele Okpaleke, Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, would keynote the Summit, while Mrs. Opara Nneamaka Gladys would discuss pilgrimage benefits.

Responding, Archbishop Ibezim commended the initiative, urged stronger sponsorship, and advised the Pilgrims Office to prioritise spirituality and public welfare, praying for wisdom, integrity, protection and success.
