Anambra Police arrest two armed robbery suspects in Umuchu

Two armed robbery suspects yesterday met their waterloo as the men of the Anambra state police command arrested them for their robbery activities in some parts of the state.

Police arrested the two armed robbery suspects at the border post in Umuchu Aguata Council Area.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, states that Police operatives attached to Umuchu Division in conjunction with patrol team from MOPOL 29 PMF Awka while enforcing the COVID-19 Curfew in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area intercepted the two suspects, one Ogbonna Chigozie aged eighteen years from Uturu Okigwe Local Government Area of Abia State but resides at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area, and Chimezie Afulor’ aged thirty-three years from Akirra Umunokpa Uzowani LGA of Enugu State.

According to the statement, the two armed robbery suspects were intercepted at the border post in Umuchu inside a tricycle with registration number GDD 081 VC conducting themselves in a suspicious manner.

The statement reveals that the suspects were immediately searched and exhibits including one locally made pistol with four rounds of life ammunition, one tricycle, house breaking implements and cash sum of thirty one thousand seven hundred and twenty Naira were recovered in their possessions.

It states that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly snatched the tricycle from Nkpor and were trying to cross to Akokwa in Imo State before their arrests.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police CP John Abang, has ordered for immediate transfer of the case to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squard (SARS) for discreet investigation.
