Anambra lawmakers renew tenure of LG chairmen

The Anambra State House of Assembly has unanimously endorsed the extension of the tenure of the Chairmen and members of the Transition Committees of the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the State for another three months.

This decision was reached during yesterday’s plenary session in Awka, in line with section two hundred and eight of the Local Government law as requested by the state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

During the meeting, the lawmakers considered the request of Governor Soludo at the committee of the whole by extending the tenure of the Transition Committees for another three months. The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.

In his remark, the Speaker observed that the Transition Committee Chairmen have been performing excellently in their various Local Government Areas, and charged them to sustain the good job they are doing for the State. He also urged them to work closely with their representatives in the State House of Assembly to attract more dividends of democracy to their respective Local Governments.

In response, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ayamelum Local Government Area, Mr. Livinus Onyenwe, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them worthy to serve their various Local Government Areas for another three months, “The extension would us also enable to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far and further improve the living conditions of the people in our respective Local Government Areas,.”

He also assured that they would continue to discharge their duties creditably in accordance with the Local Government law.

Similarly, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu, and his Awka South counterpart, Mr. Thankgod Anago, expressed their appreciation to Governor Soludo for extending their tenure. They also pledged to redouble their efforts to surpass their previous achievements and continue to deliver quality services to their people.
