Anambra Govt Set To Distribute Free Oxygen To State Primary Health Centres
The Management of Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant has commenced free distribution of oxygen to all the primary health centres in the state in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s directive.
The Managing Director, Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim disclosed this when the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health over sighted the agency as part of their constitutional responsibilities.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that according to Dr. Ibezim the gesture which will last for a period of three weeks is to avoid a situation where a patient that requires oxygen died due to unavailability of it.
He further stated that the agency had trained health personnel in primary health centres, teaching and general hospitals in the state on the use of oxygen.
Dr Ibezim who described oxygen as a very critical part of COVID-19 management, explained that they make available purest form of oxygen to Ndi Anambra as stipulated by the World Health Organization for saving life which he noted has helped the state in management of those infected with COVID-19 pandemic.
In the area of internally generated revenue, Dr Ibezim revealed that they sale five hundred naira per cubic meter of oxygen to private hospitals as a means of generating funds for the agency and the state government.
In his remark, the Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Dr. Carter Umeh expressed satisfaction over the performance of the agency and commended Governor Obiano for given a directive that oxygen be made available to primary health centres free of charge.
Dr Umeh mandated the management of Anambra State Oxygen Production Plant to set up a committee to monitor the distribution of free oxygen to primary health centres so that the purpose will not be defeated.
A member of the committee, Honourable Emma Nwafor noted that Governor Obiano has demonstrated again that he has the welfare of the people at heart by installing Oxygen Production Plant at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.
