Alor Women Elect new Excos sue for Peace, Care for the Elderly

The newly elected executives of Anambra State Association of Town Unions – Women Wing, Alor Community (Inyom Alor) of Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State have pledged to continue to advocate for peace and unity in their community whose men’s folk share loyalties between two traditional rulers.

In her address, the Outgoing Community Women Leader (CWL), Mrs Grace Uche Nwoye(JP) thanked the Almighty God for seeing her through during her two tenures in office helping her keep the entire Alor women as one entity united in peace during a period when the Alor Community leadership crises resulted into the community parading two monarchs and two Town Union governments.

“During my administration from 2015 to 2023 God helped us to build a long 20 to 30 persons capacity Stall at Nkwo market. We honored 10 illustrious sons and daughters of Alor community with titles of ‘Ambassador’.

“We pleaded for the construction of more stalls. Chief Chijioke Uzokwe Nkataukwu, Chief Clement Aniefuna Ebekuodike, Chief Emmanuel Ojukwu Agbaigwe and Chief Chinedu Ezeani built additional 4 stalls of 20 to 30 persons capacities. The five stalls were worth over 3million naira each.

“We empowered 31 persons with forty thousand naira each after their Skills acquisition training. Another 6 youths chosen from our six villages who learnt computer training were also empowered.

“We could have done more but thanks to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s 1Youth 2 Skills and the Idemili South Chairman, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi’s Skill acquisition programs in which several youths and women from Alor community are beneficiaries.

“My Special thanks to Senator Dr. Chris Ngige(Onwa), My former PG Chief Uzoma Igbonwa (Okeife), the Alor Women Ambassadors and my entire executives for their encouragements and support throughout my stay in office. May God bless them bountifully”, said Mrs Nwoye.

Mrs Nwoye further advised the newly elected leaders to embrace the word of God, prayers, transparency and peace for a more united women and better entire Alor community.

The newly elected Inyom Alor principal officers include: Women President General – Lady Ifeoma Uzokwe, Vice President – Mrs Lucy Igwegbuna, Secretary – Mrs Chiamaka Igwebuike, Assistant Sec – Mrs Uche Okoye Obele, Treasurer – Mrs Nkiru Onyeudo, Financial Secretary – Mrs Benedict Nwoye Gbuzue.

Speaking after her election during the 2023 August general August meeting, the newly elected Community Women Leader, Lady Ifeoma Uzokwe popularly called (Lady Peace)who was elected unopposed by the entire Alor community women (Inyom Alor) numbering over 1000 persons thanked the women for finding her worthy to serve them.

Mrs Uzokwe after praying that God will settle the traditional rulership crisis in Alor urged the women to remain united in peace saying that service to humanity without discrimination is service to God.

“I am elated today. I have passion for human beings. I like touching lives especially the elderly women and the bedridden. We shall creat a conducive place for conviviality in Nkwo market where our elderlies can come out to chat and see themselves. On major market days we can arrange for transportation and bring the elderly women out to the market for sight seeing. We shall visit our bedridden colleagues to give them sense of belonging,” said Mrs. Uzokwe.

Highlight of the Alor Women August general meeting was the inauguration of the new exco by the Director Women Affairs, Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare,Ms Ujunwa Arinze flanked by the Idemili South LGA WDO, Mrs Gloria Oby Nwosu.
