Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Stealing Five Children
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested Promise Boniface for allegedly abducting five children from a family in Obio Ibiono Local Government Area. Boniface, along with other suspects detained for various crimes, was paraded at the State Police Command headquarters in Uyo. Police Commissioner Joseph Eribo confirmed that the children were rescued unharmed and reunited with their parents. Boniface was apprehended after a pursuit involving local residents and police officers, and the motorcycle used in the crime was recovered. When questioned, Boniface claimed he found the children stranded in the rain and decided to take them. He also stated, “It is the condition that led me to do it. This is my first time doing this.” On November 27, 2024, police officers engaged armed kidnappers attempting to abduct a man along the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Highway. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect, while others escaped on a motorcycle. Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and suspected charms. Following intelligence, police raided a gun-manufacturing factory, arresting David Nse Emmanuel. Other family members involved in the operation fled. Recovered items included several firearms and materials used in their production. The police also arrested suspects involved in armed robbery and vehicle theft, including Joshua Linus, Isaac Archibong, and Christian Archibong, who were involved in robbing a POS operator. Vehicles stolen by criminals, including a black Toyota Camry, were also recovered. CP Eribo emphasized the police’s commitment to maintaining Akwa Ibom’s status as one of Nigeria’s safest states, vowing to continue protecting citizens’ lives and property. Investigations into the cases are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court.
