Aguata Local Government Area Commissions New Igbo-Ukwu Community E-Library to Boost Education and Reading
The Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Offorbuike, has restated the council’s commitment to education with the opening of the Igbo-Ukwu Community Library.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Offorbuike described education as the foundation of growth and development in every society. He said education remains “life and light” in Aguata and added that investing in young people is very important for the future of the community.
According to him, the idea of building the library came because of the many schools in the area. He explained that the facility will give students a better place to study and learn, especially during school holidays.
Dr. Offorbuike also said the library will help keep children busy with meaningful activities, reduce social vices, and encourage a stronger reading culture among young people in the community.
He expressed hope that the project would encourage other communities to establish similar libraries and also motivate the government to invest more in educational facilities across the state.
The Mayor appealed to the people of Igbo-Ukwu to protect the library from vandalism and ensure that it is properly maintained for future generations.
He further praised the Anambra State Library Board for providing technical support towards the successful establishment of the community library.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of the Anambra State Library Board, Mrs. Obioma Obalum, described the opening of the library as an important step towards improving literacy, learning, and community development.
Mrs. Obalum commended the Aguata Local Government administration for investing in education and creating an environment that supports reading and academic excellence.
She encouraged students in Igbo-Ukwu and nearby communities to make good use of the library. According to her, the facility has been stocked with textbooks and other educational materials needed for internal and external examinations.
She added that students now have easier access to learning materials and should take advantage of the opportunity to improve academically.
While commissioning the library, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, said the project is more than just the opening of a building. He explained that it is an opportunity for young people to learn, develop themselves, and compete with others globally.
Dr. Ogugua said the Anambra State Government has continued to invest heavily in education. He expressed happiness that the Aguata Local Government Chairman is also supporting educational development through the library project.
The Commissioner noted that although progress has been made in the education sector, more still needs to be done, especially in digital learning. He added that the new library was designed as an e-library to support modern education.
He expressed confidence that the facility would help students improve their knowledge, enjoy better learning opportunities, and prepare for a brighter future.
The event was attended by students, community leaders, stakeholders, and residents of Aguata Local Government Area.
