Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa has promised to intervene in issues hindering the release of inmates at the Nnewi Correctional Centre.

The director said that some of the inmates have been legally cleared and are due for freedom. He pledged to pay off the bail of the inmates that have been legally certified free, as well as those still trapped because of some financial lag.

Venerable Okwuosa made the pledge during a charity visit, where he donated six hundred and eighty thousand naira worth of one hundred mattresses to the facility.

The charity visit, which has become an annual fixture across custodial facilities in Anambra State, is implemented in association with New Bethel Christian Centre, NBCC, a London-based charity organization, with subordinate bodies in Nigeria.

Venerable Okwuosa, while addressing inmates and management of the centre, stated that the charity visits to correctional facilities have spanned across two decades, with the major aim of spearheading the scriptural injunctions of love, compassion and fraternity.

He also pledged to look into the complaint of water pollution in the facility, and urged those held at the correctional centre not to see their current situation as a perpetual ostracization, but a time to reflect deeper and work on all versions of their lives.
