ACSPN: Personal Experiences and insights from eminent professionals in the field

The Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN), an Association that brings together all who study and practice mass communication had on Wednesday hosted a programme for its members tagged”personal experiences and insights from eminent professionals in the field, lessons learnt in building a successful career in the industry”.

The programme which is the first of its kind to be hosted by the Association, was held at the NUJ Secretariat, Awka , had lots of eminent personnels present. Most of the them include: Prof. Stella Okunna, the Vice Chancellor Paul University, Awka and a pioneer member of the association, Prof. Kate Omenugha , a Professor of mass communication and the former commissioner for education, Anambra state, Mrs Ifeoma Obi, the Chairperson of the Association, Anambra state chapter, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, the chairman NUJ, Anambra state.
Also, present at the occasion was, Sir Chief Chukwuemeka Nkemdilim (Onwachukwugoziri), a well known philanthropist and an awardee at the event, Prince Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike , the chairman, Aguata LGA who also doubles as the chairman of the event, Dr. Ifeoma Obinabo, the commissioner for Women Affairs and social development ably represented by Comrade Ada Ubah and Dr Uche Ekwugha, the staff adviser Department of mass communication, UNIZIK who led the stúdents of the department to the event etc.

Prof. Stella Okunna admonished the stúdents in her speech to keep upgrading themselves and specifically to the female ones, she said “Don’t let anything stand on your way as you strive. Give it your best shoot and if you believe yourself, your best shot will take you a better place.

Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, while sharing his experience, portrayed the essence of of being fearless and smart as a communicator, of which he spoke on tenacity of purpose.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Henry Duru remarked that the event was the first to be held in Anambra state as a whole but the second in the south East zone. He said the event was one of the series of the Association at the state level viz empowerment series,history series and eminent series. Of which empowerment series was conducted last year and History series done today.

ASCPN is the only association that has academia and professionals with the objective of improving Communication in each both national and international . It is the umbrella body of those who studies Mass commúnication, says Dr. Ify Obi, Director of Unizik FM.
Making his submission at the event, Dr. Jeff Amarachi who was kidnapped but released. He adjudged the stúdents to always say”I can for I can” and also if you know your onion you would go hungry.
The climax of the event was the presentation of awards to the awardees by the Association. The awardees include- Dr. Ifeoma Obinabo and Sir Chief Chukwuemeka Nkemdilim (Onwachukwugoziri).
Also the conferment of matron on Prof. Stella Okunna and Prof. Kate Omenugha was an epoch making scene.

The Chairman of LOC gave the vote of thanks while appreciating everyone for contributing in one way or the other to make the event a success.
