A philanthropist empowers 500 widows to celebrate birthday

A philanthropist and President of the United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora, UBWA, Mrs Nkiru Duru has empowered not less than 500 widows in the South East region as part of actions to mark her birthday party.

The beneficiaries, Blueprint learnt, were presented with sewing machines, blending machines, bags of rice and wrappers.

Duru, while distributing the items at Onitsha,​ the commercial nerve of Anambra State, enjoined women to be always be happy and industrious​ no matter the situation of life.

“Don’t be jealous of anyone. If you take your eyes off your goals and begin to look at the progress or success of others, you will fail. Be of a good character. Nobody​ will want to do anything serious with someone with dubious character,” she stated.

“I am not giving out these items because I have money but because it gives me joy to put smile on the faces of the widows which I am one of them. I know what I passed through when my husband died. I married so early and had two kids before his demise but today those kids who were in Nursary and primary school when their father died are now undergraduates” the President added.

Also speaking,​ the National Publicity Secertary, UBWA, Mrs Nkiru Nwagbo, sought support from the government and other spirited individuals for the group to build capacity of more women, as well as​ empower them with startup capitals and mentorship to excel.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Emily Obah, assured that she would move forward with the encouragement and sewing equipment.
