Traders Union leaders sabotaging government efforts on revenue in Keffi—Management

The Managing Director,Keffi model market,Alhaji Mohammed Jumare has attributed some of the challenges faced in revenue generation in the market to the activities of racketeers,who constitute a clog in the wheels of progress.

Reacting on the issue,in an exclusive interview with selected journalists in his office on Thursday,the MD, expressed displeasure over the way and manner in which the officials of the market union,have resorted to frustrate the state government drive for revenue generation through the facility provided.

Mohammed Jumare further lamented that their actions have not only affected smooth commercial activities in the market but becomes a threat to his life and members of the management staff.

” This has also become a set back to collection of revenue on behalf of the state government,who built the market through a loan facility from a bank,which needed to be repaid on specific time” , he pointed.

However,Jumare,assured that the authorities of the market would take all the necessary legal and administrative measures that can restore normalcy for the activities in the market for the general interest of all parties.

He appealed to the various market union members to chart the path of peace and reconciliation with a view to have an amicable resolution of the lingering dispute,so as to move forward.

But contrary to the position of the Managing Director”s disposition,when contacted,the chairman of the Traders and Marketers Association in Keffi LGA chapter,Alhaji Table Banana,said that against the allegation,they had instead made immeasurable contributions to the take off of the market from the old side to the present location,yet we’re shortchanged

Alhaji Rabo,reacting further,added that the bone of contention was that the management of the market led by the MD never consulted them when he attempted pulling down some tached shops in the market,which according to him was given them by the immediate past governor.

He however,stated that they are ready to embrace dialogue and peace with the management,so as to reach a lasting solution.
