Police Probe Death of 25-Year-Old Worker in Nnewi Building Collapse‎

‎The Anambra State Police Command has on Sept 30, commenced an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man following the collapse of part of an old building being demolished at Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North
‎ Local Government Area of the state.
‎
‎The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said police operatives attached to the Otolo Divisional Headquarters responded to the incident after receiving the report. He said the officers cordoned off the affected area, commenced preliminary investigations and documented the scene to aid further inquiries.

‎SP Ikenga identified the deceased as Bakeru Iwal, a 25-year-old male, adding that his remains were evacuated to the mortuary for preservation pending autopsy and other necessary examinations. According to preliminary findings, the building was undergoing demolition when a section of the structure suddenly collapsed, trapping one of the workers.

‎The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and thoroughly to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

‎The commissioner also ordered the police to determine whether any person bears responsibility for the incident, with appropriate action to be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

‎The command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
