Governor of Anambra state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has narrated his ordeal during the Nigerian civil war of 1967-1970. Governor Soludo noted that he wasn’t told about the war but has a first hard knowledge of the War because he experienced it.
Speaking at the light House Awka, after the command performance organized by the Igbo integration movement, Soludo revealed that he was just a child of about 7years old when the war started. He explained that his father and elder brother joined the Biafra army who fought against the Nigerian Army.
The Governor lamented that those who are still agitating Biafra should consider the disaster that happened during the civil war and galvanized a better approach that is free violence and Bloodshed. He said that people who didn’t experience the war might not understand the level of damage made to the eastern region because of the war.
Drawing from his personal history, the Governor shared the trauma of the Civil War, recalling that his mother died during the conflict and his father carried a bullet for more than 6 years following the war.
Governor Soludo expressed concern over the lack of structured intellectual engagement regarding the challenges facing the Igbo people and their position within the Nigerian state.
