‎The Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) has executed a demolition exercise in Oyi Local Government Area in furtherance of its statutory mandate to ensure strict compliance with physical planning laws and regulations.

‎The operation, carried out by the ANSPPB Enforcement Team, was conducted at Aniogazi, Ezinkwerre, Nkwerre Ezunaka, along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway. During the exercise, an uncompleted structure and its perimeter fence, both constructed without requisite government approval, were removed.

‎An official of the Oyi Local Planning Authority (LPA), who identified himself only as Chuks, confirmed that the development lacked the necessary approvals. He stated that the LPA had, on multiple occasions, visited the site and conspicuously marked “stop work” notices on the structure, all of which were willfully disregarded. “The demolition is a direct consequence of persistent non-compliance with regulatory directives,” he noted.

‎Addressing members of the press at the demolition site, the Head of the Development Control Department (DCD), ANSPPB Headquarters, Mrs. Ngozi Chukwudi, stated that the Board had received multiple petitions concerning the gas plant. “A removal notice was duly served on the proprietor well in advance.

Upon the expiration of all statutory notices, and in consideration of overriding public safety concerns, demolition became the only recourse available to the Board,” she explained.
