BCSA 2025 Valedictory Service: A Celebration of Excellence, Growth, and Faith
The Bishop Crowther Seminary Awka (BCSA) valedictory and graduation service, held in Awka on the 13th of July, 2025, was a culmination of academic achievement and spiritual guidance, featuring several memorable highlights.
Following the opening formalities, the valedictory sermon was delivered by Ven. Onyinyechukwu Ilione. His message, rooted in Exodus 13:17, offered both encouragement and admonition. The passage, which recounts the Israelites’ departure from Egypt after years of captivity, was contextualized by Venerable Ilione to deepen the graduating students’ understanding of its relevance.
He likened the school to a land of training, much like Egypt, preparing students for the wilderness of life’s experiences and ultimately guiding them toward their promised lands. He prayed that God would lead them by a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day.
To reinforce his message, he reminded the students of their journey throughout their years at BCSA:
“You enjoyed good days, and also some ugly days, in the course of your academic odyssey. You faced challenges, discipline, punishment, and even the nature of feeding. At times, we think our teachers, from the principal to the chapel staff, are wicked. When we were growing up, we thought our parents’ discipline was harsh, not realizing that their discipline was a glory to be revealed.”
Venerable Ilione urged the graduating students to uphold the values of integrity and excellence, emphasizing their role as ambassadors of the institution.
Following the sermon, the induction of graduating students was conducted by esteemed BCSA old boys, symbolizing the continuation of a legacy rooted in leadership and service.
A highlight of the event was the award and gift presentation, recognizing outstanding achievements in academics, sports, and leadership.
In his valedictory address, the Principal, Rev. Canon Jonathan Ikpoyi, expressed deep appreciation to the Bishop and Proprietor, Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Chibuzor Ibezim, Bishop of Awka Diocese and Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, for his unwavering commitment to quality education.
Rev. Canon Ikpoyi also thanked the Old Boys Association for their ongoing support, particularly for the two-storey building project nearing completion and for sponsoring many of the prizes awarded during the service. He acknowledged that their criticisms, interests, and expectations serve as motivation for continued growth.
He commended the parents for their efforts and contributions, reminding them that the task of raising the boys is not over — they are merely concluding another phase of life. He encouraged them to remain committed to nurturing their sons spiritually, academically, morally, and otherwise.
He thanked the PTA for installing Sollar power in the hostels and classes in the school.
Rev. Canon Ikpoyi urged the graduating students to carry the pride and spirit of Bishop Crowther Seminary with them, to stay connected to their alma mater, and to play active roles in the Old Boys Association. He encouraged them to cherish the bonds forged during their time at BCSA.
Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzor Ibezim encouraged the graduates to trust in God’s guidance while working diligently to achieve their goals. He issued them testimonials, blessed them, and wished them well as they stepped into the next chapter of their lives.
This year’s valedictory and prize-giving service at Bishop Crowther Seminary Awka not only celebrated academic excellence but also inspired a new generation of leaders committed to service, integrity, and faith.
