Edo Security Squad Accused of Assaulting Journalist in Benin

A journalist, Hassan Olasunkanmi Quadri, was allegedly assaulted by operatives of Edo State’s new Special Security Squad, “Operation Flush,” during a hotel raid in Benin City.

Quadri, known as “Otunba Ororo,” claimed he was slapped, teargassed, and had his belongings stolen. He said the attack would have escalated if not for the intervention of the governor’s Chief Press Secretary. The squad was launched on July 15 to combat cultism and kidnapping.
