Skill Acquisition: Onitsha South LG Mayor Receives Male Leather Purse, Self Portrait From Students

The Students from Living Word Secondary School, Housing Estate, Onitsha South Local Government Area, on June 26, presented a portrait of the Council Mayor and a male purse to the Mayor, Chief Emeka Orji in appreciation of his leadership skills and good governance in the area.

The two students, Chukwuemeka Chiagozie Charles (Portrait designer) and Amaechi Miracle Chikamso(Male purse designer) with the school Principal, Pastor Agomoh Kingsley and Vice Principal Admin, Mrs Uche Okpala made the presentation during the courtesy visit of the school delegation to the Mayor in his Office at the Council Secretariat.

According to the Principal, “Since your assumption of office, hearing and seeing your good works become a necessity to meet with our amiable and distinguished chairman.

“An excellent opportunity to familiarize with you, have our school prefect interact with you to learn leadership skills from you, present a gift from the students skill craft, highlight the school’s achievements, address any challenges we may be facing and discuss future collaboration that can benefit both our school and the community.

The School Prefect, Master Igwe Paul Cedar in his thank you speech to the Mayor said, “We thank you sir for the opportunity given to us to pay you a familiarization visit. I also want to thank you for being the source of attraction of a general hospital, good roads and other infrastructural development in Onitsha South Local Government.

“With respect to Anambra State Government encouragement for students to partake in skill acquisition, we have established Fine art, where we have drawing and painting, art craft like male leather purse, hand bags, school sandals and others.” He said that the handbag with the Vice Principal Admin and the Principal’s sandal are the products of the school handcrafts.

The drawer, Chukwuemeka appealed to the Mayor for sponsorship and funds, saying that he want to create a world record of the biggest art made with pieces of cloth.

Responding to the request, the Mayor pledged for his support but demanded for a proposal for such project, he with enthusiasm thanked the students for the handicrafts, encouraged them on the need to be self reliant, saying that the drawer is Vincent Van Gogh of Nigeria, a model to Vincent Van Gogh of Dutch.

“Vincent Van Gogh, a renowned Dutch post impressionist painter who is celebrated for his distinctive and expressive style characterized by bold colors and dramatic brush work which significantly influenced the development of modern art.

Contributing, the Supervisor for Education, Onitsha South Local Government, Hon. Echezona Dunu, encouraged the students to be continuous in their skills, also encouraged both students that crafted the portrait and the hand purse for their determination.

He reiterated the importance of skill acquisition in the present Nigeria, saying that those skills would lead them too far in life, put food on their table, most importantly, being self reliant without depending on the white collar job.

The Mayor gifted the students cash gifts while the Principal in his prayer, prayed for God’s protection and blessing on the Mayor, more wisdom and God’s direction in all his endeavours. He also invited the Mayor to their upcoming graduation ceremony.
