Alleged N620m Fraud: Court Dismisses Charges Against Baptist Pastors, Others

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has quashed a five-count charge of alleged N620 million fraud filed against two Baptist pastors and four others, citing lack of evidence.
Justice J. A. Aina ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case or counter the defendants’ motion challenging the competence of the charges.
Pastors Israel Akanji and Thomas Takpatore, alongside Babatunde and Adenike Adebayo, Oladele Afolabi, and Gloria Olotu, were accused of conspiracy, forgery, and criminal diversion of church funds between 2012 and 2021.
The court ordered their discharge, noting that the church never reported any missing funds and the Board of Trustees did not back the case.
