27-year-old man nabbed for killing mother in Niger

A 27-year-old man, Habibu Bazabarme, has allegedly stabbed to death his biological mother and seriously injured his wife over a family quarrel in Kontagora, Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered the incident occurred on Monday at the Zawiyya Tudunwada area of Kontagora town.

The suspect was reportedly fighting with his wife over some issues when the mother heard them and stepped in to separate them.

He was said to have reached for a knife and attempted to stab his wife, but he mistakenly stabbed his own mother who was trying to intervene.

Odogwublog gathered that in spite of efforts to save her, the mother died shortly at the scene of the incident.

It was learnt that Habibu gave his wife a serious beating that resulted in injuries that have landed her at the Kontagora General Hospital, where she is presently receiving medical attention.

However, a source in the area described the suspect as mentally unstable, particularly with the way and manner he has been behaving recently.

“The suspect has been acting strangely in recent times. We have been wondering what has gone wrong with him, until the incident between him and his wife on Monday,” the source stated.

It was reliably gathered that the wife, who suffered injuries from the beating she got from her husband, was taken to the hospital,

When the news of the death of the mother broke out, Habibu was immediately arrested for suspected culpable homicide.

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas, when contacted, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat but could not give further details on the case.

He added that an investigation was ongoing on the incident.
