2024 Aguata NBA Law Week, Another Subtle Contribution To Nigerian Project – NBA Chairman

The 2024 Law Week of the Aguata Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has been described as yet another modest contribution to the “Nigerian Project”.

The event with the theme, “Interrogating the judicial responses to the application of ICT as a panacea to electoral malpractices in Nigeria”, featured opening ceremony lecture on the theme of the event by a Constitutional Lawyer, Professor O.N Ogbu, while on the following day, participants embarked on health walk; followed by health talk and indoor games, and later a pre-dinner lecture on “The Nigerian lawyer, the rule of law and nation building” by Rev. Fr. Professor Ikenga Oraegbunam.

At the event, the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, a High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Dennis Maduechesi, APGA National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, Administrative Judge of Aguata Judicial Division, Honourable Justice Aloysius Ezeoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Emmanuel Ozoemena Achukwu, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, Chukwuma Ikwuazom, SAN, Ozonma Chidi Nobis-Elendu received awards.

Others honoured were Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne, His Worship, Genevieve Osakwe, TC Chairman of Aguata LGA, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, Chief Barrister Clifford Iloegbune Okoye, member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, Honourable Dom Okafor, and Chief Okwuchukwu Ezemadubom of Next Level Marine Services Limited, and Chief Chibunna Madubom, CEO of Chimal Ventures Limited.

Welcoming participants to the event, the Aguata Branch Chairman of the NBA, Barrister Victor Ezeonwumelu, said the “Frontline Bar” has since inception continued its search for a revolutionizing role for the law profession “in the seemingly impracticable task of reshaping and re-routing the Nigerian nation through rich and robust indepth lectures”.

He noted that the Law Week, which has been a biennial celebration in the branch, was not held since after that of 2020 due insecurity within and around the Old Aguata Region of the state, reason he commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration for doing alot to curb the unfortunate tide through good governance, thereby allowing the branch hold the 2024 edition of the event.

The Aguata NBA Chairman, while congratulating the award recipients at the event, challenged them to continually justify the honors bestowed on them by further investment in integrity and industry in the years ahead.

Congratulating the Front Line Bar on the success of the 2024 Law Week, the APGA National Chairman, Barrister Ezeokenwa, who said that the theme of the event is timely and imperative in an age where information technology has become central to all facets of life, noted that integrating it into the electoral process is a critical step towards combating electoral malpractices and ensuring the sanctity of the ballot.

He said that the commitment of the NBA branch to exploring and advocating for the use of ICT in electoral process is commendable and of paramount importance to the future of democracy in Nigeria.

The event held at Alex Ekwueme Bar Centre, Ekwulobia, and later at Somuna Hotel and Suites, Ekwulobia, featured unveiling of “Frontline Bar Journal” and dinner proper respectively.
