Woman docked for allegedly assaulting sister-in-law

A 38-year-old woman, Joyce Andrew who allegedly assaulted her brother’s wife, Ruth Mark, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Andrew, a resident of Kakuri Kaduna, is standing trial on a one-count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 21, at Textile Quarters Kakuri, Kaduna.

“The complainant said that the defendant was in the habit of beating her children over trivial matters whenever she is away from home.

“The complainant confronted the defendant concerning the issue which resulted to a fight and the defendant beat her to a pulp,“ Leo told the court.

The offence contravene Section 173 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the accused bail in the sum N150,000 with one surety in like sum.

Emmanuel said that the surety must be gainfully employed and present evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government

He adjourned the case until May 12, for trial.(NAN)
