Woman arraigned for allegedly selling stepsister’s generator

A 55-year-old woman, Florence Sani, was docked in an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly selling her stepsister’s generator without her consent.

Sani, who lives at Kubwa, Abuja, is charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Maureen  Taiye reported the matter at Kubwa police station on June 15.

Olanipekun said that the complainant entrusted her generator set valued N400, 000 to the defendant whom is her stepsister to keep for her.

He alleged that the defendant dishonestly sold the generator and converted the money to her personal use.

The prosecution counsel said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

Section 312 states that whoever commits criminal breach of trust shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years or with fine or with

both.

Section 322 states that whoever cheats shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.

The Judge, Muhammad Wakili admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with one reasonable surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Feb.26 for hearing.
