Why we must take vulnerable children out of streets – association

Muslims Sisters Association, Abuja, Founders of the Halal Children Home, has called on governments and well-meaning individuals and groups  to take more  vulnerable children out of the streets.Mrs Ramatu Abubakar, President of the Halal Children Home, made the call on Saturday during an awareness walk and medical care by the organisation.

The event was aimed to draw attention to the plight of vulnerable children.Abubakar said that Halal Children Home was established four years ago to raise awareness on the plight of orphans and other vulnerable children on the streets.

She called on well-meaning Nigerians to open their hearts and homes to accommodate  vulnerable children as a way of fostering  them and bringing them out of the streets.According to her, fostering a child as a way of taking care of the vulnerable is a life of love as prescribed by the Quoran.“We at Halal Children Home provide the vulnerable  with the care they deserve because we believe that these children can still be something in the future.“We  give them proper upbringing and also give them  quality life they desire in a home.

“We are doing these to encourage people to take these children into their homes and provide a family setting for them,” she said.Mr Ahmed Momoh, a former Special Assistant to former Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, noted that some vulnerable children constituted nuisance on the streets and created an atmosphere of insecurity.He said that more care for them would reduce  insecurity.According to him, care for vulnerable children through fostering,  will imbibe in them good morals and spirituality.He said that such care would be rewarded by God.

He called on governments to focus more on  promoting  children’s rights.Mr Abdulhakeem Huthman, the Baba Adinni of Badagry, Lagos State Division, commended  Halal Children Home for efforts at giving succour to  vulnerable children.Huthman, who is also the Chairman, Hydraform Nigeria Group, said that homelessness by children needed urgent attention.

He noted said that  vulnerability of children could cause  insecurity because “they are idle, and an idle mind and hand will always be the devil’s workshop”.According to him, there is need for well-meaning Nigerians to house homeless children, educate them and care for them.He said that governments would not be able to do so alone.
